Michael Lee-Chin is Chairman of Portland Holdings, a privately held investment company that manages public and private equity, and owns a collection of diversified businesses operating globally in sectors that include financial services, insurance, telecommunications, agriculture, tourism, media and waste management.
Among his many personal accomplishments, Mr. Lee-Chin has received Doctor of Laws degrees from a number of distinguished universities including, McMaster University, the University of Toronto, Northern Caribbean University, Wilfrid Laurier University, The University of the West Indies, and York University.
In 2008, he was awarded one of Jamaica’s highest national honours, the Order of Jamaica, for his significant contributions in business and philanthropy. From 2011 to 2016, Mr. Lee-Chin served as Chancellor of Wilfrid Laurier University. In April 2016, he was appointed Chair of the Government of Jamaica’s newly established Economic Growth Council (EGC) in an effort to bolster economic development. As growth czar, Mr. Lee- Chin is tasked with leading a team from the private and public sectors to advise the Government of Jamaica on the adoption of a framework of growth initiatives. On February 27, 2018, Mr. Lee- Chin was appointed to the Order of Ontario, the Province’s highest honour, reserved for those whose contributions have shaped the province, the country and beyond.
